Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church have indicated their intention to protest Fighting Chance Production's production of The Laramie Project on November 28. We are planning a peaceful anti-hate rally to counter their actions.

We're only a few days away from the rally and want to update you on plans.

The rally will be taking place at Grandview Park which is across from the Havana Theatre (1212 Commercial Drive). Look for the large rainbow flag at the Commercial Drive entrance to the park. The rally will officially get underway at 5:00 and run until about 7:00 to allow for The Laramie Project cast to get to the theatre on time for that night's show.

We encourage you to bring glow sticks, flashlights and bike lights so that we'll all SPARKLE (Spread Peace, Acceptance, Respect, Kindness, Love and Equality) and illuminate ourselves. Rally buttons will be for sale from our roving volunteers with the proceeds going to the Matthew Shepard Foundation as well as local LGBT groups.

Participating in the rally will be Spencer Herbert (MLA for Vancouver-Burrard), Shane Simpson (MLA for Vancouver-Hastings), Rev. Markus Duenzkofer (Rector of St. Paul's Anglican Church), singer-songwriter Nadia Von Hahn with the cast of The Laramie Project, The Carnival Band plus other surprise guests. The Vancouver Police Department will also be in attendance.

The rally will go ahead as planned whether or not the Westboro Baptist Church is allowed into Canada, so please come out and show your support for our great city either way.

Again, we ask that you please not bring any signs or placards. We have been asked by the Parks Board and by the Vancouver Police Department that signs and placards remain at home for your safety and for the safety of others. We will have flags to block the WBC from passersby if they do show up.

Looking forward to seeing you on Friday! And if you haven't already booked your tickets to see The Laramie Project make sure to get them soon - the show has almost sold out.

Check out the event page and come see what Fred Phelps is making such a big fuss about!

We'd like to remind everyone that the evening's events are all about peace, love, compassion, acceptance and unity and look forward to seeing you at this important event!

Can you help with setup or tear down on Friday? We need people to assist with setting up tents, tables, chairs, tech equipment and flags on Friday from 3:00-4:30 and then to tear it all down from 7:00-8:00. Please contact Liz Wilton at liz@wirelessnomad.com if you are able to help out. Thanks!
